THE GUN SHOW BY EM LEWIS

A REGIONAL PREMIERE

"It's a fascinating and often-painful journey through gun culture — an anodyne phrase that masks the many shades of nuance in how Americans feel about guns. "  CHICAGO TRIBUNE

"...the story is human, bold, sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking, but always honest. " Mary Kroeck, Newcity Stage

From a farming community in rural Oregon to the big cities of Los Angeles and New York, playwright EM Lewis takes aim at her own relationship with firearms in “The Gun Show.”  An actor shares Ms. Lewis’s unique perspective and true stories about America’s most dangerous pastime as if they were his own, with brutal honesty and poignant humor. Leaning neither right nor left, “The Gun Show” jumps into the middle of the gun control debate, and asks “Can we have a conversation about this?”

After decades of living in America, *Ayn Rand brings her Communist sister Nora to New York from Russia. Ayn rigidly conducts her life according to her book “The Virtue of Selfishness”, a philosophy at odds with her sister’s. It is a philosophy that has enabled Ayn to control everything and everybody. Too late Ayn realizes that all her beliefs and premises are under siege by her seemingly ditzy, baby sister who is the only one that can match her extraordinary wit and intellect. Between truth and lies, envy and love, Nora manages to hold Ayn’s marriage and legacy up for blackmail in a tight sisterly grip.

*Ayn Rand immigrated to the USA from Russia and is best known as the author of Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead. She is also known for her politics. Her followers include Paul Ryan and Alan Greenspan, who under her influence as Chairman of the Federal Reserve led the country to adopt her economic policies of ‘laissez-faire’capitalism. The result unfortunately was the economic meltdown of 2008.
